The 4th International Conference of Shaft Design and Construction (or SDC 2019) was held in Toronto this past November. We took it as an auspicious sign that the conference, first held in 1959, was the first time taking place outside of the United Kingdom, and essentially in our backyard. As the world’s only conference specialized in shaft sinking, design, and construction, making a good showing was a priority.
Having just celebrated his 34th anniversary with us, Rob Mundy remains a major asset. His career has enabled him to wear many hats across the organization – from operations and safety to purchasing, planning and estimating – he’s come a long way from working underground at remote mines.
Mental health awareness is continuously evolving and recognizing how to support and encourage well-being can significantly improve a workplace and the employees within it. The costs of ignoring mental health in the workplace can be steep in more ways than lost productivity: it can hinder the success and growth of employees – and ultimately the company as a whole.
